Scientific Seminar with Expected International Participation

Place of Conference: Bratislava
Date of Conference: December 3 – 4, 2014
Responsible Person: Svorad Zavarský
Organizer: Jan Stanislav Institute of Slavistics of Slovak Academy of Sciences

The confessional division within the Church in the early modern period was accompanied by fervent activity in the field of polemical theology that precisely defined the positions of the individual confessions in the religious doctrine and practice. Theme of seminar is based on the hypothesis that polemical theology, analogous to ascetics, belonged to a practical theological discipline whose topics and way of thinking were so present in social life that they naturally penetrated into other literary genres (historiography, drama, scientific tractates). The aim of the seminar is to consider and discuss about polemical-theological codes across different literary genres in 16th-18th century. This important aspect even in mentioned period that was one of the defining aspects of written culture has not been a subject of interest of researchers in Slovakia yet.
